Karkouri answers Sunderland call

Sunderland AFC have recruited Moroccan defender Talal El Karkouri from Paris Saint-Germain FC.

Loan star
El Karkouri arrives at the Stadium of Light on a six-month loan from Paris Saint-Germain FC - and becomes Sunderland's first signing of the January transfer window. The Wearsiders' manager Howard Wilkinson said: "He is strong in the air and having played in France has good technical ability. He will hopefully make a very useful addition to our squad between now and the end of the season."

Dream move
The 26-year-old centre-back joins a club in desperate need of a lift. Sunderland are second from bottom of the Premiership after Tuesday's 1-0 home defeat by Southampton FC. "The Premier League is every player's dream and this will give him an opportunity to impress on that stage," Wilkinson added.
