Newcastle United FC have secured the services of versatile Cameroonian international Geremi for the next three seasons on a free transfer from Chelsea FC.

Long stay
The 28-year-old, capped 85 times by his country, has passed a medical at the Premier League club and agreed personal terms, although a work permit has yet to be finalised. Geremi arrived in England in the 2002/03 season when he joined Newcastle's north-east rivals Middlesbrough FC on loan from Real Madrid CF. He had been with Los Merengues since 1999 and gained further UEFA Champions League experience over the past four seasons at Chelsea but was deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge for the upcoming campaign. Newcastle, under new manager Sam Allardyce, have already signed defender David Rozehnal, midfielder Joey Barton and striker Mark Viduka.
