Newcastle United FC will introduce Laurent Robert to the club's fans ahead of their UEFA Intertoto Cup clash with TSV 1860 München at Saint James' Park after completing the signing of the Paris Saint-Germain FC forward for an undisclosed fee.

'Excellent addition'
"We are delighted to have secured the services of Laurent for the next five seasons," chairman Freddy Shepherd said. "He is a very exciting attack-minded player who I am sure will be an excellent addition to our team."

Media speculation
Local media speculated that Newcastle agreed a fee of around €15.5m for the 26-year-old left-sided player who scored 15 goals in 22 games for PSG last season. Shepherd admitted that it had been a "struggle" trying to finalise the deal. He said: "We have been chasing the signature of Laurent for a long time and whilst it has been a bit of a struggle it was worth the wait."

UEFA Cup eligibility
He is ineligible for the Intertoto Cup but should Newcastle qualify, through it, for the UEFA Cup, he would be clear to play. They are favourites to reach the final of the Intertoto Cup after beating the German side 3-2 in the Olympiastadion in the first leg of their semi-final.
