ÍA Akranes were crowned as Icelandic champions on Sunday after holding title rivals ÍBV Vestmannæyjar to a 2-2 draw in a nail-biting end to the season.

Early goals
The two sides went into the game level on 35 points, with ÍA holding a slim advantage due to their superior goal difference. A sold-out crowd at the Hásteinsvöllur were stunned as Kári Steinn Reynisson put the visitors ahead after just seven minutes. Knowing they needed to win to take the title, ÍBV pushed forward but were caught by a sucker punch just two minutes later when Sigurður Þór Sigursteinsson doubled ÍA's lead.

Tómasson double
The hosts refused to give up and threw themselves a lifeline midway through the first half when Tómas Ingi Tómasson grabbed his seventh goal of the season to make it 2-1. Urged on by a partisan crowd, ÍBV then equalised on the hour mark as Tómasson popped up once more to draw the sides level.

Frantic finish
A frantic finish saw chances come and go at both ends but ÍA held out to earn a point and confirm themselves as the league champions for the first time since 1996.

FH seal third place
FH Hafnarfjördur ensured a third place finish with their 2-0 away win against Fylkir. Hannes Sigurðsson opened the scoring on 33 minutes before Baldur Bett sealed victory with one of the goals of the season, firing a 35-yarder into the top right-hand corner. Fylkir, who were touted as title favourites earlier in the season, finished in fifth after losing their last six matches in a row.

Fram avoid relegation
Fram Reykjavík avoided relegation after scoring a 5-3 win over Keflavík. Ásmundur Arnarsson and Ágúst Gylfason both grabbed a double while Andri Fannar Ottósson added Fram's fifth. Þórarinn Kristjánsson (25), Zoran Ljubicic (79) and Haukur Ingi Guðnason (85) got the goals for Keflavík.

Too little too late for Valur
Valur Reykjavík drop out of the top-flight after going down 2-1 at already-relegated Breidablik. Ármann Smári Björnsson gave Valur hope of saving themselves with a goal a minute after the break but second half strikes from Þorsteinn Sveinsson (77) and Hörður Bjarnason (87) clinched victory for Breidablik, ensuring their opponents would be joining them in the first division.

Reigning champions finish seventh
Elsewhere, deposed champions KR Reykjavík ended their disappointing season on a high note with a 2-0 win at Grindavík. Sigurvin Ólafsson scored both goals after 10 and 90 minutes to put KR seventh in the table.
