Women’s football and its massive development comes under the spotlight at a UEFA conference, which opens on Tuesday in Oberhausen (Germany).

Fourth such gathering
The fourth UEFA Conference on Women’s Football will examine various topics connected with the women’s sector. Representatives of UEFA’s 51 European national associations will join coaches, players and administrators in looking back at recent events and examining future aspects of an area of the game which has blossomed in the past few years.

Successful coaches interviewed
The conference’s opening day will include a review of the 2001 European Women’s Championship by UEFA Technical Director Andy Roxburgh, and the coaches of the two finalist teams – Tina Theune-Meyer (Germany) and Markia Domanski (Sweden) – will give special interviews.

Women’s club football
On Wednesday, key issues and technical aspects of the latest European Women’s Championship will be reviewed, and the conference will discuss the 2001 European Women’s Under-18 Championship before moving on to examine UEFA’s latest innovation in the women’s game – women’s club football in Europe. The inaugural UEFA Women’s Cup for club teams is taking place this season.

Interview with Doris Fitschen
Women’s football will be viewed from a player’s perspective, and a special interview will feature Doris Fitschen, who has retired recently after a record 144 appearances for the German national team.

UEFA Women’s Cup draw
The future of women’s football will be addressed on Thursday by Kelly Simmons, Head of National Football Development at The English Football Association, and Jarmo Matikainen, Technical Director of the Finnish FA. The draw for the UEFA Women’s Cup quarter-finals and semi-finals will close the conference.
