Scottish Premier League outfit Motherwell FC have appointed Eric Black as their new manager, with former England defender Terry Butcher named as his assistant.
Poor start
Black, a former Aberdeen FC and FC Metz striker, succeeds Billy Davies, who parted company with the club last month after Motherwell's poor start to the season. They currently lie second from bottom of the SPL, six points ahead of bottom-placed Saint Johnstone FC.
First job
It is Black's first managerial job, although he was an assistant to Josef Venglos and John Barnes at Celtic FC during the 1998/99 season. Butcher has had managerial experience at English clubs Coventry City FC and Sunderland AFC.
Contracts
The pair have signed contracts at Fir Park to take them through to the end of the 2004/05 season.
