SC Astra Ploiesti have appointed Gheorghe Multescu as their new coach after the resignation of Constantin Stancu.

Romania return
Multescu, 49, a former international, represented FC Dinamo Bucuresti and CS Jiul Petrosani during his playing days. After beginning his coaching career in Romania, Multescu then spent seven years in Turkey with various sides. He returned to Romania to take over at CF Sportul Studentesc and guided them to promotion to the first division before leaving the club in the summer.

Father joins son
Multescu has agreed a two-year contract at Astra, where he will coach, for the first time, his own son Catalin. The 25-year-old goalkeeper has been with the club for four years.

Three coaches
Astra, who are in eleventh place in the table, have now had three coaches this season, having already employed Gabi Stan and Stancu. Multescu's first game in charge is an away fixture at FCM Bacau this Saturday.
