Lyngby move close to merger

Members

Danish Superleague club Lyngby FC are close to merging with AC Ballerup after club members voted overwhelmingly in favour of the move.

Financial difficulties
At a meeting held on Thursday an open vote saw 175 votes cast in favour of the merger with only 36 against. The Superligaen club have been in dire financial difficulties for the last few months after owner Jorn Terkelsen refused to invest any more funds.

New stadium
Ballerup chairman Kenneth Orland, chairman of Ballerup, who play in Danmark Serie To, said that he was ready to support the merger and would help invest in a proposed new stadium to divert the threat of bankruptcy. "If Lyngby want to come to Ballerup, we will continue with the club colours of blue and white," Orland told Ritzau, a daily newspaper.

'Name will survive'
Orland continued: "Their name will also survive, as we will probably will be renamed AC Lyngby-Ballerup. Their fans, the Blue Vikings, will also be met with open arms."

Best solution
Lyngby's coach, Poul Hansen, is in no doubt that the merger would be the best solution for Lyngby. "I recommend voting for a merger with AC Ballerup," Hansen told www.onside.dk. "It's the only solution."
