FC Twente are fearful that veteran goalkeeper Jan-William van Ede may be forced to retire because of injury.
Hernia operation
The 38-year-old, the oldest player in the Dutch Eredivisie this season, has undergone a hernia operation and faces a lengthy period on the sidelines. Van Ede is back-up to Sander Boschker.
Six months at least
Club physio Marcel Richter is predicting a long recuperation process with no return expected before the end of the season. “It will take him six months to fully recover, but that doesn't mean that he can take his place under the crossbar then,” he said.
Much-travelled keeper
Van Ede started his career at hometown club FC Utrecht back in 1982/83 and spent 14 seasons with them. Spells at PSV Eindhoven, Haarlem FC and NAC Breda then followed before his move to Twente. He played one game last season.
