Gray lands Villa role

Stuart Gray has made a swift return to the English FA Premiership by being appointed first-team coach at Aston Villa FC just weeks after being sacked as manager of Southampton FC.

Gray spent four years as a player at Villa Park stadium between 1987 and 1991 before joining Southampton. He took his first training session on Tuesday morning, according to Villa's official website.

First appointment since axe
It is the 41-year-old's first appointment since he was axed by Southampton after just seven months in charge following a poor start to the season.

Deehan promoted
In another change to the Villa coaching staff, John Deehan has been promoted to the role of assistant manager.
