AC Chievo Verona remain top of Serie A after AS Roma and Internazionale FC drew 0-0 in Saturday’s only Italian first division game.
Chievo on top
Chievo have a chance to extend their lead to four points when they play their first ever Serie A derby game with Hellas-Verona FC on Sunday following the draw between the second and third-placed clubs.
Delvecchio frustrated
In the game at the Olimpico stadium, Roma striker Marco Delvecchio twice went close from crosses by Brazilian defender Cafu. Starting in place of injured Argentinian striker Gabriel Batistuta, Delvecchio was denied by Inter goalkeeper Francesco Toldo and then the woodwork.
Vieri threatens
Christian Vieri, making his first appearance after returning from a knee injury, provided the most consistent threat for Inter and he hit the bar with a header late in the first half. Vieri went close again with another header in the second half as he latched on to Andres Guglielminpietro's cross.
Rattled the post
However, it was Roma who had the most dangerous shot of the second half when Brazilian Marcos Assunção rattled Inter’s goalpost with a fierce 25 metre free-kick minutes before the final whistle.
