Valencia CF have lost their appeal against being thrown out of Spain’s Copa del Rey.
Unanimous rejection
Rafa Benítez's side, who were 1-0 home winners against Celtic FC in Thursday’s UEFA Cup third round first-leg match, have had their appeal against being thrown out of their domestic cup competition unanimously rejected by the Spanish Sporting Disciplinary Committee (CEDD).
Four non-EU players
Valencia were hoping to overturn the original judgement by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) who decided that they should be excluded from the competition after fielding four non-EU players in their first-round win against Novelda CF on 10 October.
Las Palmas beckons
Novelda, who lost 1-0 to Valencia, will now play against UD Las Palmas in the second round.
