Krylya’s acquisition will strengthen further a defence that conceded only 23 goals in 30 outings in the Russian season - only one team had a better record. Krylya Sovetov were one of the surprise packages of the 2001 Vysshaya Liga as they finished fifth, after narrowly avoiding relegation the previous year.
