Second division LKS Lódz came close to knocking TS Wisla Kraków out of the Polish Cup in their quarter-final 2nd leg tie on Wednesday night, but in the end, Wisla’s extra quality showed through.
Quite a start
After a 2-2 draw in the first match, a 17th-minute goal by Cezary Czpak gave Lódz a sensational lead at the Reymonta stadium. Tomasz Frankowski equalised in the 48th minute, but Wisla still needed half an hour more to prove their superiority over the struggling second division team. Another Frankowski goal in the 78th minute was followed by goals from midfielder Kazimierz Moskal and talented striker Pawel Brozek in last five minutes.
Extra time
Second divsion leaders Orlen Plock overcame Swit Nowy Dwor, but extra time was needed. Belarussian midfielder Ruslan Kondraschuk’s goal in 62nd minute levelled the match on aggregate and Mariusz Nosal scored the all important goal in the 92nd minute of extra time. Youngster Pawel Strak then settled the match in Orlen’s favour by scoring in the 103rd minute.
Remaining games
Wisla will meet Orlen in the semi-final, which will take place in March. The two remaining quarter-final ties will be played on Thursday: KS Ruch Chorzów take on Legia Warszawa and KS Groclin-Dyskobolia Grodzisk play KS Amica Wronki.
