Malta round-up: Sultana wins the day

Stefan Sultana scored the only goal of the game as Hamrun Spartans FC secured a vital derby win against Marsa FC in the Maltese Premier League.

The two local rivals faced each other for the first time in 17 years with both sides having ambitions to qualify for the Champions pool at the end of the season.

But the home side tasted defeat thanks to Sultana's goal 12 minutes from full time. Hamrun's talented 17-year-old midfielder Mauro Brincat came off the bench 23 minutes from time and it was his free-kick which found the head of Sultana, who nodded the ball home. Hamrun therefore move up to fifth, five points clear of Marsa, who remain seventh.
