The entire first team of Danish Superligaen side Lyngby FC could make their final appearance for the club at home to Brøndby IF on Sunday before their contracts are terminated and they are released.
Financial problems
The troubled club are expected to be declared bankrupt on Thursday and, although they must play their remaining fixtures, the club's professionals will all be looking for new homes.
‘Free to go’
Director of the Danish Players’ Union Mads Oeland said: "If Lyngby FC are declared bankrupt, there will be a meeting in court on Monday, where a curator will be announced. That person will take a day or two to announce that the club is not fulfilling its contracts, which means the players won't get paid. After that the players are free to go, but that will be Tuesday or Wednesday of next week at the earliest."
Future in balance
Lyngby would then face the prospect of completing their remaining fixtures with amateurs before a decision can be made on their future at the end of the season. The 80-year-old club were Danish champions as recently as 1992.
