Feyenoord maintained their advantage at the top of the Eredivisie in the Netherlands on Wednesday night league but they were given the fright of their lives by RKC Waalwijk before winning 3-2.

Waalwijk recovery
Waalwijk fought back from two goals down before finally succumbing. Goals by Ebi Smolarek and Paul Bosvelt gave Feyenoord a significant cushion at the interval but Rick Hoogendorp's double, including one from the spot, hauled Waalwijk level before Smolarek's second won the day.

Ajax fight back
Second-placed AFC Ajax were 2-0 down and a man light at half time at home to FC Twente and on course for a third consecutive league defeat. Veteran Twente striker Jack de Gier put the visitors two up in the first 15 minutes.

Wamberto winner
When Mido Hussein was dismissed five minutes before half time, the writing looked on the wall for under-pressure coach Co Aadrianse. But De Gier missed a hat-trick chance and that spurred Ajax on. Andy van der Meyde and Rafael van der Vaart hit two goals before Wamberto hit the winner with five minutes to go.

PSV preserve record
PSV Eindhoven preserved their eight-year unbeaten record against FC Utrecht after Mateja Kezman scored a late equaliser.
PSV defender Yuri Nikiforov diverted the ball into his own net after just four minutes but team-mate Kezman levelled matters half an hour later.

Utrecht ahead
Igor Gluscevic put Utrecht back ahead and a famous win looked assured when Patrick Zwaanswijk headed the third just before the hour. But four minutes later, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink snatched a second for the visitors and after Utrecht's Dirk Kuyt hit the bar from close range, Kezman headed his second.

Other games
Elsewhere, NAC Breda were forced to wait before late goals by Glen Salmon and Sergio Pacheco gave them a fifth straight league win, 3-1 over NEC Nijmegen. in the day's other game, a freak goal by Yiannis Anastasiou gave Roda JC a 1-0 victory against SC Fortuna Sittard.
