Article body
Rayo Vallecano have signed Bosnian forward Elvir Baljic on loan from Real Madrid CF until the end of the season.
Knee injury
Baljic, 27, was briefly Madrid’s record signing when he joined the club from Fenerbahçe SK in 1999 for €17m. A serious knee injury hampered his chances of making an impression in the Spanish capital and, after ten league appearances in 1999/00, Baljic was loaned back to Fenerbahçe.
One appearance
He returned to Spain this year and was included in Madrid’s UEFA Champions League squad. He made just one appearance, coming on as a substitute towards the end of the 4-1 home victory over RSC Anderlecht in the first group stage.
Bosnian colleagues
At Vallecano, Sarajevo-born Baljic will take the place of long-term injury victim Luis Cembrano. The striker will link up with fellow Bosnian international Elvir Bolic and countryman Emir Granov.
Poor form
The club are bottom of the Primera División having won just two games in eleven league matches this season. Madrid meanwhile are on the up in seventh place, having just beaten rivals FC Barcelona 2-0.
