FCM Bacau have parted company with coach Mircea Rednic in the wake of the club’s 5-1 home defeat against FC National Bucuresti on Saturday.
New signings
Bacau, who were relegated last season but then took the place of promoted club FC Baia Mare in the top flight, spent heavily in the summer on building their squad for the 2001/02 campaign. Experienced players like Razvan Lucescu, Daniel Iftodi and Nivaldo were all brought in by new coach Rednic.
Hopes faded
Yet the club’s hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Cup have diminished and they find themselves in sixth place. It has also been claimed that the relationship between Rednic and his players has broken down.
Poenaru poised
Rednic’s successor has not been named but it is reported the club are in negotiations with former Bacau coach, Gheorghe Poenaru. Bacau are the eighth Romanian club to change their trainer during the season.
