Netherlands round-up: Vitesse move up

SBV Vitesse moved to third in the Eredivisie table with a 2-1 win against De Graafschap on Friday.

Close-fought game
In a close-fought game at the Gelredome, the home side took decisive control with two goals early in the second half. First, Bob Peeters scored after 51 minutes to give the Arnhem side the lead, before Gert Claessens struck on 54 minutes to confirm their advantage.

Tense finish
However, a 70th-minute penalty for De Graafschap's Dennis Schulp ensured a tense finish to the game. The result leaves Vitesse three points behind league leaders AFC Ajax, but the Amsterdam club have a game in hand.

Misery for Sittard
In the evening's other game, SC Fortuna Sittard's problems deepened with a 3-1 home defeat to FC Den Bosch. Patrick Deckers gave the visitors a 1-0 lead after 24 minutes, but Sittard equalised shortly after half-time through Rolf Landerl.

Van den Eede hits two
However, goals in the 51st and 80th minutes from Bart van den Eede condemned Sittard to another defeat and they are now six points adrift of Roda JC at the foot of the table.
