Republic of Ireland round-up: Shelbourne top

Shelbourne FC have moved to the top of the National League with a 2-0 win against Shamrock Rovers FC in Friday’s round 20 game.

Closely-fought game
In a closely-fought game at the Tolka Park stadium, Jim Gannon opened the scoring after 52 minutes before Jim Crawford’s goal midway through the second half sealed the result for Shelbourne.

Two red cards
In the evening’s other game, Saint Patrick’s Athletic FC earned a 2-0 victory against Dundalk FC at the Richmond Park stadium, although the visitors had been reduced to nine men by full time with the dismissal of Chris Lawless and James Keddy.

Late penalty
Mbabazi Livingstone opened the scoring for the home side with 20 minutes to go but they had to wait until two minutes from time for Martin Russell’s penalty to make the result certain.
