In a closely-fought game at the Tolka Park stadium, Jim Gannon opened the scoring after 52 minutes before Jim Crawford’s goal midway through the second half sealed the result for Shelbourne.

In the evening’s other game, Saint Patrick’s Athletic FC earned a 2-0 victory against Dundalk FC at the Richmond Park stadium, although the visitors had been reduced to nine men by full time with the dismissal of Chris Lawless and James Keddy.
