RCD Mallorca defender Vicente Fernández is out for the rest of the season after snapping tendons in his right knee.

Foot twisted
The 26-year-old former Sporting Gijón player was hurt in the third minute of Sunday’s match against Málaga CF when his foot twisted as he tried to turn quickly. Coach Sergio Kresic said he heard the snapping sound from the dugout.

‘I wanted to die’
"There was a cracking sound like a blind falling down. I knew straight away what had happened and I wanted to die," Fernández said. "When I touched the knee it felt like a piece of torn paper and they had to give me morphine to help me stand the pain.

’Have to be patient’
"Just looking at the images on TV makes me feel sick," added Fernández, who was booked in for an operation on Tuesday. He faces between six and eight months out. "I will have to be patient - there is no choice," he added.
