PFC Levski Sofia go into the winter break three points clear in the A PFG after defeating PFC Litex Lovech 2-1 at the Gueorgui Asparuhov stadium on Wednesday night.
Stunned into silence
Litex stunned the home fans into silence when taking the lead after just nine minutes. Kiril Nikolov surged down the left flank and put in a great cross which was met perfectly by striker Stefan Yurukov, who headed past Georgi Petkov in the Levski goal.
Pressed hard
Levski struck back eight minutes later when Georgi Ivanov picked himself up after being felled in the box to coolly slot home the resulting penalty and level the scores. The home side pressed hard for the winner in the second half, bringing the best out of Litex goalkeeper Vitomir Vutov, who made some fine saves.
Winning goal
The pressure paid off and midway through the second period when Vutov failed to clear a corner and Elin Topuzakov pounced to score after 67 minutes. Despite some late Litex pressure the scoreline remained unchanged and Levski go into the break three points ahead of city rivals FC CSKA Sofia, with Litex a further two points adrift in third.
