Article body
Olympiakos Pireaus FC goalkeeper Dimitris Eleftheropoulos will be out until after the winter break in Greece following a successful back operation.
'In good health'
The 26-year-old Greek international has been troubled by sciatic pains in his back but was not responding to treatment from the club’s medical staff. Eleftheropoulos underwent surgery on Thursday in Athens Central Clinic and an official statement from the club on Friday said the player "is in good health but it is not known when he will return".
Time to recover
With only one match to go before the winter break in Greece, the club felt that it would be better for their first-choice goalkeeper to have the operation now so he will have enough recovery time before the season starts again.
Second operation
It is the second time this season the Olympiakos stopper has had to have surgery after going under the knife in October after breaking a finger on his left hand. Olympiakos, who were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League at the first group stage, are second in the Hellenic National League, five points behind leaders AEK Athens FC.
