AEL Limassol FC kept in touch with the Division A leaders with a 2-0 win over Apollon Limassol FC on Saturday.
Late goals
After being frustrated by a stubborn Apollon defence for 69 minutes, Chrysis Michael put AEL in front with a fine header from Jozef Sebok’s corner. Sebok was again the provider in the 82nd minute after his clever free-kick was well met by Swedish striker Jorgen Walemark who fired the ball past goalkeeper Sofronis Avgoustis.
APOEL cruise past AEP
AEL’s chief rivals at present, APOEL Nicosia FC, continued their great league form with an easy win over AEP Paphos FC. Sinisa Gogic put APOEL in front on eleven minutes with a penalty and scored from the spot again after 59 minutes. Elias Solakis wrapped up the win for the league leaders in the 66th minute with a terrific strike from a Marinos Satsias pass.
Rauffmann on hand
Omonia FC’s German striker Rainer Rauffmann was once again the hero for the champions as he hit two crucial goals to secure a 2-0 win away at Doxa Katokopia FC. Meanwhile, Enosis Neon Paralimni FC bounced back from their previous league defeat from APOEL FC with a hard-earned 2-1 win away to ten-man Ethnikos Ashias FC with Costas Elias and Antonis Zembashis scoring the goals.
Alki topple Anorthosis
Anorthosis Famagusta FC slumped to their third defeat of the season as Ilie Dumitrescu’s new-look Alki FC side registered their fifth win in twelve games. Dejan Mjilkovic’s tenth-minute strike from Ljubisa Kekic’s clever pass was enough to separate the two sides at the New GSZ stadium in Larnaca.
AEK hit Ermis for five
AEK Larnaca FC had an easy afternoon away to Ermis Aradippos FC, beating the home side 5-1, while Ethnikos Achnas FC defeated Olympiakos Nicosia FC 3-1 in Achnas.
