Netherlands round-up: Ajax defeated

FC Utrecht came from behind to beat Eredivisie table-toppers AFC Ajax in style and send the high-flying Amsterdam giants into the winter break with wings comprehensively clipped.

Goals from Stefan Tanghe, Tom van Mol and Arco Jochemsen gave Utrecht the perfect response to Andy van der Meyde's early strike and saw them move up to sixth in the table. With the league resuming in late January, Ajax will have plenty of time on their hands to regroup after the defeat.

NEC too strong for Roda
In Sunday's other game, Frank Demouge warmed NEC Nijmegen's fans on a freezing day with the only goal of the game against Roda JC. Demouge headed home from close range after good work from René van Rijswijk and Bart Latuheru down the left.
