Newcastle United FC lead the way in the FA Premiership again after a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough FC.

Newcastle United FC returned to the top of the FA Premiership on Wednesday after a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough FC - their fifth league victory in succession.

Shearer scores
Alan Shearer, Gary Speed and Olivier Bernard got the goals for Newcastle, meanwhile Liverpool FC are third after Vladimír Šmicer scored their winner in a 2-1 victory at Aston Villa FC after Jari Litmanen had opened the scoring and then missed a penalty.

Resilient Arsenal

Sol Campbell's first goal for Arsenal FC saw his side go top of the FA Premiership for a few hours with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea FC at Highbury. Frank Lampard's second goal in as many games gave the visitors a 31st-minute lead, but Arsène Wenger's squad showed resilience, and goals from Campbell and Sylvain Wiltord moved them second ahead of Liverpool on goal difference.

Late goals for United
Manchester United FC made it four wins on the trot by beating Everton FC 2-0 with late goals from Ryan Giggs and Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooij.

Fowler in form
Meanwhile, Leeds United AFC's new signing Robbie Fowler scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 win at Bolton Wanderers FC. The England international has now scored five goals for his new club following his switch from Liverpool. Leeds, who had Jonathon Woodgate in their starting line-up for the first time in ten weeks, moved up to third.

Derby thrashed
West Ham United FC put paid to Derby County FC's hopes of a mini-revival with a 4-0 win at Upton Park stadium. Derby were in an optimistic mood after their 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday, but an early goal by Sebastian Schemmel stopped them in their tracks. Second-half goals from Paolo di Canio, Trevor Sinclair and Jermain Defoe sealed a superb win for Glenn Roeder's side.

Southampton put one over Hoddle
The return of Glenn Hoddle and Dean Richards to Southampton FC with Tottenham Hotspur FC added an edge to proceedings at St. Mary's stadium  and after a goalless first half the home side scored the only goal of the game. James Beattie did well to judge an up-and-under into the box and headed the ball past Spurs goalkeeper Neil Sullivan.

Missed chances
Fulham FC's derby match against Charlton Athletic FC finished goalless, with both sides guilty of missing glorious chances at Craven Cottage stadium. Finally, Ipswich Town FC moved off the bottom of the table, swapping places with Leicester City FC after beating them 2-0.
