FC København striker Thomas Thorninger has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract with Udinese Calcio.
Last chance
The 29-year old will become the first signing since Udinese appointed Giampiero Ventura as their new coach on Tuesday. “It was my last chance to try my luck outside of Denmark and it was my last chance to play in the Italian Serie A,” said Thorninger. “I have always wanted to play in Italy, live there and speak the language which is something I never got around to at [AC] Perugia.”
Perugia spell
He had a brief spell with Perugia in 1997/98 but returned to play for København after only six months. ”I have signed a good contract, although it is not as financially rewarding as the one I had in Perugia," added Thorninger.
Final game
Thorninger, who played in excess of 130 matches for København, will start his careeer with Udinese on 1 January and will play his last match for the Copenhagen side on Tuesday night when they face Team Amnesty international, a team selected from the seven first and second division clubs based in the Danish capital, in Michael 'Mio' Nielsen’s farewell game.
New chance to shine
”Thomas has had four years with us at FCK since we purchased him from Perugia and now he gets a new chance in Italy,” said København president Flemming Østergaard. “We fully understand his choice and wish him all the best.”
