Article body
Sebastian Helbig has left one struggling 1. Bundesliga club for another after switching from FC Energie Cottbus to 1. FC Köln.
Coach sacked
Köln, who sacked coach Ewald Lienen on Monday, have secured the services of the 23-year-old on a free transfer as his contract at the Freundschaft stadium was due to expire at the end of the current campaign.
Shot to prominence
Helbig, who has signed a three-year deal, shot to prominence in the 1999/00 season, but has struggled to recapture his form of old this term after injuring his knee during pre-season training. He is expected to partner French striker Lilian Laslandes, who is currently on loan at the Müngersdorfer stadium from Sunderland AFC until the end of the season, in Köln's attack.
Relegation places
Köln have not won any of their last five league games and have failed to score in over 500 minutes of Bundesliga action. After amassing just 14 points from 19 matches, the club have slipped into the relegation zone, three points behind 15th-placed Energie.
