FC Schalke 04 have confirmed that Frank Neubarth will take over as their new coach on 1 July.
Stevens leaving
The club had to find a successor to Huub Stevens after he announced he would be leaving at the end of the season. Schalke, who were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League after the first group stage, have agreed a two-year deal with Neubarth.
'Dream come true'
Neubarth, who spent his entire playing career at SV Werder Bremen and scored 97 goals in 317 games, moved into coaching at Bremen in May 1999. He called the Schalke job a "a dream come true and a fantastic challenge", and added: "Schalke are a club with great tradition, an excellent ground, superb fans and a good team."
Early exit
Schalke have so far failed to live up to their inspiring form of last season. As well as their early European exit, last season’s 1. Bundesliga runners-up are seventh in the table.
