UEFA has paid tribute to Dr Alberto Barbé (Italy), the former chairman of the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Committee, who died on Friday at the age of 77.
Special adviser
Dr Barbé chaired the Control and Disciplinary Committee from 1972 to 1996, and was special adviser to UEFA’s disciplinary bodies from 1996 to 1998.
Order of Merit
His services to European football were honoured when he received the UEFA Order of Merit after the 2000 UEFA Congress.
Outstanding service
“We are very saddened by this news,” said UEFA chief executive Gerhard Aigner. “Dr Barbé gave outstanding service to European football over many years and made a huge contribution to UEFA’s disciplinary work.”

“We offer our sympathy and condolences to his family and friends – he will be sorely missed,” added Mr Aigner.
