German side 1. FC Kaiserslautern have signed Yugoslavian midfield player Perica Ognjenovic.

German giants 1. FC Kaiserslautern have signed midfielder Perica Ognjenovic on the last day of the German transfer window.

Madrid spell
The Yugoslavian international was without a club after his recent stay at Real Madrid CF came to an end. The 24-year-old moved to Spain from NK Crvena Zvezda in 1999 but made just 12 appearances for the Primera División club.

Something to prove
Ognjenovic was not even registered as a first-team player at the Bernabéu this season, hence his delight at the move to the 1. Bundesliga club. "I am happy to finally have the chance to play," he said. "I will prove I have not forgotten how to play football. I could not have imagined a better chance than to play in one of the best leagues in Europe."

Wiese arrival
Kaiserslautern have also snapped up 20-year-old goalkeeper Tom Wiese from SC Fortuna Köln. The move opens the way for reserve goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller to leave the club. SV Werder Bremen, VfL Wolfsburg and BV Borussia Dortmund have all shown an interest in Weidenfeller who will decide his future in the next few days.
