Miroslav Blazevic has resigned from his role as coach of the Iranian national team, citing health reasons and the disappointment of not qualifying for the World Cup finals.
Letter of resignation
The 66-year-old Croat, who took over as Iran's coach a little over a year ago, sent a letter of resignation to the Iranian Football Federation saying he found it "unbearable" that his team had not reached the finals.
Big-money offer
According to reports earlier this month Iran had offered Blazevic a new four-year contract worth some €4.5m despite his side losing out in the play-offs to the Republic of Ireland in November. "This is the best offer of my career," said Blazevic, formerly the coach of his native Croatia.
'No' to Bosnia
Blazevic, whose availability could prompt interest from clubs in France, rejected an offer to coach Bosnia-Herzegovina this month after strong disagreement from some of the country's best-known coaches.
