Vejle BK goalkeeper Boye Habekost has retired due to a persistent knee injury.

Vejle BK goalkeeper Boye Habekost has retired due to a persistent knee injury.

Contract terminated
The Danish Superligaen's bottom club cancelled Habekost's contract after the 33-year-old failed to overcome the problem. A statement on their official website said: "Vejle and Boye Habekost have agreed to cancel Boye's playing contract with immediate effect.

Serious knee injury
"Boye has tried in vain to be free of injury since suffering a serious knee injury in the away game against Akademisk Boldklub on 21 October 2001. His future prospects do not look good so he has taken the decision together with club doctor Jens Elers to end his football career. Vejle is deeply sorry that our work together has to end and wishes Boye luck and happiness in the future," concluded the statement. Habekost made 104 appearances for the team following his debut in 1985.

Change of coach
Vejle parted company with coach Keld Bordinggaard last week and announced assistant Frank Petersen as his replacement. Bordinggaard's decision not to extend his current deal, which ended in July, prompted the club to act sooner rather than later.
