Goals from Juan Pablo Angel and Darius Vassell secured a valuable 2-1 FA Premiership win for Aston Villa FC at Charlton Athletic FC on Monday.
Perfect start
Charlton's poor home form continued to dog them as Villa had the best of a hard-fought encounter. The visitors made a perfect start when Vassell gave them the lead after just eight minutes. The English Under-21 international burst into the Charlton area and was fortunate to see his low effort deflect over a helpless Dean Kiely in the Charlton goal.
Moment of magic
With half-time approaching, Villa doubled their advantage with a moment of magic from Angel. The Colombia striker slammed the ball into the net from a tight angle three minutes before the interval to give Charlton a mountain to climb in the second period.
Late penalty
Charlton pulled one back through Graham Stuart two minutes from time, the striker seeing his penalty brilliantly saved by Peter Schmeichel before heading home the rebound, but Villa held on and collected a deserved three points.
