Article body
Ipswich Town FC defender Amir Karic has returned to his native Slovenia until the end of the season to enhance his 2002 FIFA World Cup prospects.
Return to Maribor
The 28-year-old left-back will rejoin NK Maribor, the club from which Ipswich bought him back in September 2000 for €1.2m. He made only three substitute appearances in his 16 months in England, all in cup matches. "Karic has failed to push his way into the first-team squad at Portman Road and has made public his frustration," the FA Premiership club said in a statement.
Played in Japan
Despite his unhappy spell with Ipswich, Karic has retained his place in Srecko Katanec's Slovenia squad and is expected to feature in Korea/Japan this summer. A former NK Rudar Velenje and FK Zeleznicar player, Karic has experience of playing in the Far East, having spent two years with J-League side Gamba Osaka.
