Article body
Roberto Baggio has returned to training with Brescia Calcio boosting his chances of a place in Italy's squad at the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals.
Seven goals
The Italy forward has not played a competitive match since 28 October, when he came off with a knee injury in a match against AC Venezia. The 34-year-old scored seven goals in his first eight matches of the season but since being sidelined Brescia have won just one of the eight Serie A matches played.
Food for thought
Baggio’s return is food for thought for Italy coach Giovanni Trappatoni, who will ultimately decide if Baggio is in his World Cup plans for Korea/Japan. Before the turn of the year, Trappatoni said: "For Baggio, we need to wait until May, but he doesn't have to prove anything to anyone."
Back in action
Brescia return to action on Sunday away at Baggio’s previous club Bologna FC but it is not yet known if Baggio, who has also played for the likes of Juventus FC, Milan AC and Internazionale FC, will be able to return. The club are in 13th place in Italy, having won only a quarter of their first 16 matches.
