Japan striker Akinori Nishizawa has cut short his loan spell at Bolton Wanderers FC.

Japan striker Akinori Nishizawa has returned home after cutting short his season-long loan with English club Bolton Wanderers FC.

Only three matches
The 25-year-old forward has returned to J-League club Cerezo Osaka after failing to earn a place in the first team at the Reebok stadium. He made just three appearances for Bolton, all of which were in the English League Cup.

Allardyce agreed
"Unfortunately Aki was unable to make an impression on our first team and we've agreed to let him return to Japan," said Bolton manager Sam Allardyce. "With the [2002 FIFA] World Cup coming up he needs regular first-team football."

World Cup hope
Nishizawa, who has scored eight goals in 17 international appearances, is hoping to be included in Japan’s squad for the World Cup this summer. Before his spell with Bolton, he also spent a brief time on loan at RCD Espanyol in Spain.
