Derry City FC piled on the misery for Monaghan United FC with a 6-1 home win on Thursday night.

Derry City FC remain fifth in the National League after beating Monaghan United FC, the bottom club, 6-1 at home on Thursday.

Coyle opener
Liam Coyle gave Derry a fifth-minute lead and two goals from Padraig Moran on 35 and 39 minutes gave the hosts a comfortable half-time advantage. Coyle added a second three minutes into the second half and Jamie Hughes struck on the hour mark. Fintan McConville scored a consolation for Monaghan after 82 minutes but Hughes slotted home Derry's sixth a minute later.

Seven behind the leaders
The win, Derry's biggest of the season, sees them move on to 38 points, seven behind leaders Saint Patrick's Athletic FC. Monaghan look certain to be relegated after winning just two of their 24 league games this season.
