Article body
Longford Town FC and Cork City FC finally defeated the elements, but they failed to beat each other at Flancare Park stadium, the game ending in a goalless stalemate.
Postponed last week
With both sides already out of the FAI Cup, this was an ideal opportunity to play the match, which was postponed last week due to fog. Cork did have a chance to win the match, but the usually reliable James Mulligan fired wide when the ball broke to him following a goalmouth scramble.
Home debut
Longford's first opportunity to break the deadlock on manager Martin Lawlor's home debut did not come until five minutes into the second half. Alan Kirby picked up an Eric Lavine pass, but his 17-metre drive was well saved by Michael Devine.
Fourth position
Cork, still lying in fourth place, are six points behind leaders Saint Patrick's Athletic FC, while Longford remain in the promotion-relegation play-off position, fourth from bottom.
