Article body
Belarussian first division side FC Gomel have finalised a two-year deal with FC Slavia Mozyr for Dmitri Karsakov.
Team and personal honours
The 30-year-old Russian defender has spent the past three seasons at Mozyr, helping them to league and Cup success in the 1999/00 campaign. His efforts that season saw him voted the outstanding midfield player in the division and he was also named the overall Player of the Year by the Belarussian press.
Playing amateur football
However, his recent days at Mozyr have been overshadowed by a series of disagreements with coach Vlado Petrovic. Even though his contract has continued to run, Karsakov spent last season playing for an amateur team in Moscow.
Camp Nou goal
Karsakov made a name for himself in 1991 as part of the USSR team that finished third in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup. But he shot to prominence the following season when he scored a goal in the Camp Nou stadium that put the seal on a 4-3 defeat of FC Barcelona and saw CSKA Moscow advance to the UEFA Champions League.
