Arsenal FC moved into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after a 5-2 defeat of first division Gillingham FC at Highbury.
Wiltord opener
But Arsenal had to work for their win, as they were twice pegged back by Andy Hessenthaler's side before easing away in the closing stages. Sylvain Wiltord gave Arsenal the lead seven minutes before the interval but less than two minutes into the second period, Gillingham hauled themselves level with a stunning strike from Marlon King.
Second equaliser
Arsenal quickly regained the lead with a 50th-minute goal from Kanu but again Gillingham replied, Ty Gooden stepping past Sol Campbell's challenge and flashing a left-footed shot over Richard Wright from 20 metres.
Adams returns with goal
Tony Adams, playing his first match for five months, headed Arsenal back in front on 67 minutes before Wiltord, with his second, and Ray Parlour sealed the 5-2 win with goals in the final ten minutes.
Hayles volley
Another London club, Fulham FC, also progressed to the last eight after a 61st-minute volley from Barry Hayles secured a 2-1 win at first division Walsall FC. Fulham, who had not reached this stage of the competition for 27 years, went ahead shortly before the break through an own goal from Tom Bennett but Walsall drew level via Darren Byfield's header four minutes after the restart.
Middlesbrough leave it late
Middlesbrough FC overcame Blackburn Rovers FC thanks to a late goal from Ugo Ehiogu. Blackburn had Lucas Neill sent off for a professional foul on Robbie Stockdale 18 minutes from time - and Ehiogu made Middlesbrough's numerical advantage pay with the decisive goal three minutes from time, heading home from a Gareth Southgate free-kick.
Dichio header
First division West Bromwich Albion FC squeezed past third division Cheltenham Town FC thanks to Daniele Dichio's 64th-minute header. The midlands club are in the quarter-finals for the first time in 20 years.
