Košice spend after winter exodus

Slovakia's 1. FC Košice have signed two new players as they bid to avoid relegation.

Troubled Slovakian Superliga side 1. FC Košice have signed two new players as they bid to avoid relegation.

Squad strengthened
Košice have strengthened their squad with the acquisitions of defender Peter Rataj, on loan from FC Artmedia Petrzalka until the end of the season, and midfielder Jaroslav Sovic, a free agent who has also agreed terms after leaving Slovakian second division side HFC Humenné.

Crisis club
The club has been hit by the exodus of a number of key players during the winter break following a dispute with Italian owner Gianni Borriero. In October last year, 16 first-team players were suspended after protesting about disparaging comments made about them by Borriero, over the non-payment of outstanding money.

Spring start
Košice - struggling in ninth place in the Superliga, four points clear of bottom side FK ZTS Dubnica - begin the spring campaign on Saturday against ŠK Matador Púchov.
