FC København have signed South African Under-20 international Elrio Van Heerden on a four-year contract.
Chance of a lifetime
The 18-year old Van Heerden is the first player from København's football school in Port Elizabeth to earn a contract with the Copenhagen-based club. "It's the chance of a lifetime," he said. "I have pinched myself in the arm a couple of times just to check that I am not dreaming. It's a fantastic feeling to know that I am now going to be training with a player like [København's South African striker] Sibusiso Zuma."
A man for the future
København's sport director Niels Christian Holmström was pleased to secure Van Heerden's signature. "Elrio has proved that he hasn't only got talent and skills but also the right mentality," Holmström said. "He's got it all and therefore we have offered him a contract. He's a man for the future but we are confident that he will be ripe for our best team soon."
