The Football Association of Finland (FBF) has scuppered relegated FC Jokerit's hopes of a swift return to the Veikkausliiga.
Replacing Atlantis?
After being relegated from the first division last season, Jokerit were hoping to get the chance to be reinstated if struggling FC Atlantis were forced to drop out of the top flight due to financial problems. However, the FBF and the Finnish Veikkausliiga committee ruled that this would not be the case.
‘Reviewed the Veikkausliiga spots’
The two governing bodies issued a joint press release that said: "The FBF and Veikkausliiga boards have reviewed the Veikkausliiga spots for season 2002 and both agree on the following procedure. If one of the member clubs is not deemed capable of participating in the league, the empty spot will not be filled by a second division club."
