The Hungarian Football Federation (MLS) announced on Monday that Nándor Hidegkuti, a key member of Hungary's brilliant team of the 1950s, will be buried in Budapest on 4 March.
Laid to rest
Hidegkuti, who died in hospital from heart and lung problems last week aged 79, will be laid to rest in a cemetery in Obuda, a northern suburb of the capital. The MLS said that the funeral would be attended by family, friends, former players and some invited dignitaries.
Sporting icon
Several thousand ordinary Hungarians are also expected to pay their respects to one of their sporting icons, joining the short procession to the cemetery just after midday. Hidegkuti won Olympic gold in 1952, the year before Hungary's famous 6-3 away win in England - the first by a foreign team at Wembley.
