France round-up: PSG close in on leaders

Members

Paris Saint-Germain FC beat FC Girondins de Bordeaux 1-0 to maintain their european ambitions.

A late goal by captain Frédéric Déhu kept Paris Saint-Germain FC's UEFA Champions League ambitions alive as they beat FC Girondins de Bordeaux 1-0 in Le Championnat on Thursday.

Lens on top
Déhu headed home a corner from Brazilian Ronaldinho as PSG narrowly avoided their 13th draw of the season, and their eighth at the Parc des Princes. The result moves PSG up to third on 42 points, although they have played one game more than RC Lens and Olympique Lyonnais. Lens, beaten 1-0 by AJ Auxerre on Wednesday, lead on 51 points while Lyon are second with 44 points.

Even game
In an even game, goalkeepers Jérôme Alonzo and Ulrich Ramé appeared to have done enough to keep clean sheets at both ends. Bordeaux nearly pinched a goal just before the break but Pauleta, the French first division's leading scorer with 17 goals, shot over the bar when unmarked in front of goal. The in-form Ronaldinho again made the difference, however, his 77th-minute cross providing Déhu with a simple chance.
