Crawford double
Striker Jim Crawford did the damage for the hosts on Friday night, scoring in the seventh and 49th minute. The three points were assured though with the dismissal of Eric Lavine in the 21st minute. Pat Fenlon wrapped up a comfortable win for Shelbourne with his side’s third twelve minutest from time.
Five points clear
Shelbourne are now five points clear of Shamrock Rovers FC but have played a game more. Longford are in ninth place but have a six-point advantage of Dundalk FC, who are the highest-placed club in the automatic relegation zone. Friday night's other match between Galway United FC and Bohemian FC was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
