Bolton Wanderers FC have agreed a deal with Hamburger SV for Denmark midfield player Stig Tøfting.

Bolton Wanderers FC have agreed a deal to take Danish international midfielder Stig Tøfting to the Reebok stadium from German 1. Bundesliga side Hamburger SV.

Fourth Dane
The 32-year-old has signed a contract which will take him up to the end of the 2003/04 season. The move, which is subject to a medical, will see Tøfting leave the Volkparkstadion after two years at Hamburg. He will become the fourth Danish player in the Bolton squad joining Per Frandsen, Bo Hansen and Henrik Pedersen.

Allardyce pleased
Bolton manager Sam Allardyce was delighted with his new acquisition, saying: “Stig’s arrival will add extra scope to our midfield department. He’s an experienced tough tackling midfielder who has bags of experience. He will boost the team over the coming months.”

World Cup hope
Tøfting, who has won 33 caps for Denmark, will be hoping the move can boost his chances of playing for his country in this summer’s 2002 FIFA World Cup. He had been struggling to cement a regular starting place in Kurt Jara’s Hamburg team and moves to Bolton for regular first team action.
