Boavista FC survived the second-half dismissal of Jorge Silva to defeat UD Leiria 1-0 on Saturday and move to the top of the 1.Liga.

Martelinho stuns Leiria
Martelinho stunned supporters at the Marinha Grande stadium – Leiria's temporary home – with a goal in added time. He raced on to Alexandre Goulart's header and poked the ball past Paulo Costinha to give the champions a surprise win.

Two points clear
Boavista had been reduced to ten men when central defender Silva was sent off for a second bookable offence on 69 minutes. But they held on and eventually found the goal which sees them move two points clear of Sporting Clube de Portugal at the top of the table.

Belenenses struggle through
In Belém, CF Os Belenenses struggled to a 3-2 win against Varzim SC, the bottom club. Verona and César Peixoto had given the home side a 2-0 lead by half-time, but Quim Berto slotted a penalty past Brazilian goalkeeper Marco Aurélio on 55 minutes before French substitute Olivier Pickeu headed home to level the score. It took an individual goal from Cafu to secure the three points for Belenenses.

Marítimo stride on
After making life difficult for Sporting in the Portuguese Cup semi-final in midweek, CS Marítimo delivered another fine performance away from home, winning 2-0 at FC Alverca with Daniel Kenedy and Richardson scoring the goals. Meanwhile, a superb effort from winger Rui Dolores was sufficient for SC Beira Mar to add another three points to their account with a 1-0 win against Vitória Setúbal. In the day's remaining game, SC Braga and SC Salgueiros drew 0-0.
